I am runnign WIndows 2000 SP4 at work. I have remote desktop client on my home machine (G3 Ibook) and my work machine. How do I enable Windows 2000 to be connecte to remotely?

Thanks

Highly recommended NOT to do this by Internet, but you need to open the RDP port: 3389 (TCP).

Maybe I should add on to this, it will only work if you've installed Windows 2000 Terminal Services and it's only available on Windows 2000 Server (or Advanced Server). If you are running Windows 2000 Professional, then you will need a 3rd party software like VNC or DameWare.

I came across this problem myself. You can get around it by using NetMeeting. In services, start the NetMeeting Remote Desktop Service on the 2000 machine whose desktop you'd like to access. You may wish to change the setting to start automatically when the pc boots. This puts an icon in the systray. Right click on the icon and select Activate Remote Desktop Sharing.

On the client machine, start NetMeeting. If run for the first time you will need to enter a few set up options. These are fairly straight forward. Once NetMeeting is running go into Tools->Options->Security and tick I prefer to make secure outgoing calls and click ok.

Now you can just enter the host / ip address and click Place a call. The remote desktop should then pop up. There may be a delay if you are accessing the win2k machine from an older windows os like 95 but it does still work.

I have shared a win95 desktop as well as a win2k. The set up is slightly different with there being no services in win95 but it can still be done.

I have a similar problem, i have windows xp at home and windows professional at office. So is it true that i wont be able to connect from the windows xp at home to windows professional at work using the Remote Desktop utility in my windows xp.
I have a windows NT also in the office. If i need that to be accessed then what component i need to add to that and where could i download it if needed.
