I am running windows 2k server. I specified many different secuirty protocols when setting up my vpn such as PPTP, client ip address matches, and friendly name. When I try to connect it will not accept my attmenp. When I leave only PPTP running it lets me right in? How do I specify the other secuity settings on the client?

Also what ports should I open on my router(is there a list I can get of all the ports for each protocl)?

When I want to look at a machine on my network when I am connected through a VPN do I just go to network Negiborhood?

Thanks so much please help

if you have a static ip pool on the win2k server, dns name resolution and networking browsing properties will be inherited to the client once authenticated to the vpn server. the ports required open are PPTP port 1723, GRE protocol port 47, udp in and out for ports 137 and 138 and tcp in and out for port 139. Thats it. if you want to check all of the ports available on your system, go into the systemroot\system32 dir, open in notepad, the SERVICES file. it will display the myriad of ports and their associations. or just do a search for SERVICES using the win search program and open it using notepad, probably easier. good luck
