Hi Folks
New to this forum and this ma first question, sorry if it had been asked before. We have got 3 NT Server Sites with Exchange Server based @ the London site. Users get connected to the server via vpn through a router to pick their mail. The router on one of the sites have been taking so no mail for them but they do have internet access. Is there a way for me to get this site to connect to our Exchange server over the internet,or can i set their outlook to pick their mail over the internet. Any advice welcomed.

Kind Regards

Charles

Do you have an OWA server?

If anyone calls and says "I know a little something about computers" just tell them to reformat it.

No we have not got OWA server,if that will solve my problem i can set up one of my machines to act as such.

If they can access the internet then OWA would allow them to access their email.

To answer your question, yes, you can connect over the internet to your Exchange server as long as you configure it properly.

That's exactly what I am doing at the moment, once I'm fully boned up, I'll share what I know with you.

If you enable POP3 on your server, your users should be able to access it from anywhere as long as they have a copy of outlook and an account on that domain.

Use OWA, but configure it to use SSL on port 443. You'll have to obtain a PKI certificate, but this will solve any security concerns you may have as it will cause authentication information to be encrypted.

Perhaps another of our experts can tell you how to get a PKI cert.

What you want is called an SSL certificate. There are a lot of ways you can go about getting certificates, several companies can check out your site and will sell you a cert( The only plus to buying the cert is that people know that you are certified by a company, and most browsers are automatically set to trust certificates issued by those companies. This is great for companies selling something to people and they need to know that they are not phony, but if you dont want to spend the money, and you are running 2000 server, you can install the certificate services component, make yourself a certifying authority and issue the cert yourself. This will save you the money, and the only people that you have connecting are people that know you and the site anyway.
