I have a Windows 2000 Professional laptop that I am using
to try and access a Windows NT server running Novell
Netware 5. The username and password that I use to log on
to the local windows 2000 desktop is different from the
username and password that I use for connecting to the NT
resource. Therefore, when I try and explore the NT
machine, it asks me for a username and password. OK so
far. However, after entering the corrrect username and
password, the login dialog box reappears as if I had got
the password wrong. I am positive that the username and
password are correct because if I use them on another
win2K machine, everything works fine. Can anyone help?

This sounds a bit like a known issue with Novell Client 4.8 in which users are presented with multiple login dialogues. Maybe the settings are different between the laptop and the other Win2K machine?

You might give this a try (this resolves the multiple login issue with client 4.8 -- I can't guarantee it'll do anything for your problem):

Click on Start > Settings > Network and Dialup Connections

Right-click on Local Area Connection and select Properties

Click on Novell Client and click on the Properties button twice. This should get you to the location profile.

Uncheck the "save profile after successful login" box, then clear the username.

Click on the WinNT/2000 tab and clear the username from there, too.

Save the location profile and give it a try.

I hope it helps!
