Connecting Flash PLAY button to flash movie

Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone can help me : I'm trying to use one of the flash play buttons from DW 4 to allow the viewer to control my flash movie. I assigned the behaviors for the play & stop buttons, but they dont do anything when I preview the page. Do I have to add a behavior to the actual movie?
any advice you can give me would be appreciated.... :)
