I am running Windows 98SE. I just installed a new dial-up modem. I can connect to the internet but when I try to open IE6 I get the error message "Cannot find server; DNS error"

None of the following solutions have worked:

-Re-typing the address
-Letting the computer detect the server settings
-Installing updated versions of the "dll" and "vxd" files found in the help menu

Does anyone have the solution?

Process of elimination here. Start from your PC and move out to the Internet to find the broken link in the chain.

Go to DOS and ping 127.0.0.1. This will check your TCP stack and let you know if it's properly configured. Then ping your gateway by IP address. Next ping your DNS servers by IP address, then ping your DNS servers by name, then ping an Internet site by name. One of these should fail and you'll know what's not working properly.
