When I start Windows ME the internet 'Connect To' dialog box randomly appears. Usually this is as soon as the Desktop is displayed but it can be at other times, eg whilst using another application such as MS Word.

I have checked the Start Up programs folder but there is nothing there relating to the 'Connect To' dialog box.

If anyone has any ideas what is causing this and how to correct it, this would be appreciated.

Hi Richard.
Does it actually try to dial up? If so, check my listing right under yours. I found something called rrdr.exe which seems to have been causing the problem. I disabled the file, (changed from exe to bak) and the problem stopped. However, I don't know what the program actually does.
I wonder if this is some kind of virus that has just started, and we are among the first to get it.

Thanks for your prompt reply. No, it does not actually try to dial up unless you press the 'Connect' button. I have done a file search and do not have rrdr.exe.

I'll now try deleting this connection in Dial Up Networking and then re-install it unless you have any other ideas.

That seems reasonable.
It must be set to only dial after asking.
When it pops up, have you tried checking the task manager to see what programs are running that might be asking for the connection?

Considering how similar our problems are, I would appreciate any info on your solution.
