I have an old AT&T Definity with 2 ISDN trunk cards. One I use to connect to the PSTN. The other I would like to use to route calls to another PBX (Trixbox) via its ISDN card. Is this possible ? Do I need a cross over cable or will a straight RJ45 work ?
Thanks

Hi,
Not as simple as that I'm afraid! You first need to decide what signalling protocol you are going to use, this will depend on what both PBX's are licenced for/capable of and what type of traffic you wish to pass between them. The simplest is probably Q-Sig.
Check your Definity is licenced for this in disp sys cust, and that the other PBX is too.
Then you will need to set up a signal group, trunk group, and route for any calls that you are going to send.

I assume the two PBX's are in the same room/building? A crossover cable should not be needed if you are using RJ45 interconnects.

First time I have looked at customer options.
Long list. Most set to n.
Couldn't see Q-Sig though or any reference to traffic types.

You could possibly set up just a basic DS1 tie trunk group between the two PBX's. No signal group needed that way. You would loose PRI features though. Display System-Parameters Customer-Options just needs to have DS1 set to yes. Might have to experiment with what settings to use on the DS1 circuit packs themselves. You will have to administer the DS1 circuit pack by Add DS1 xxxx (xxxx being the slot that the DS1 pack is located in). If you don't have UDP turned on (uniform dialing plan) then you could just access the trunk group by dialing the trunk access code. Kind of a down and dirty way of getting tie trunks between two locations but it can be done. The hardest part will be getting the DS1 circuit up.

Good luck

Good luck

I just setup an ISDN-PRI circuit over to an NEC so it is possible. If the Tribox will do ISDN-PRi is just a matter of figuring out the settings between the two. I would be glad to post the configs on the avaya side of the trunk I setup if you're interested.

Hi
Thanks everyone for all the posts.
I have not made much progress on this week.
I'll have to get a move on because questions are being asked.
Simreal, yes please to the Avaya settings.
Turns out I have a support contract and I have placed a call with them but no response so far.
Thanks

in most cases when you connect to pieces of CPE equipment together you will need a crossover.
