Hello,

I am having a problem, I am trying to install exchange on my home computer for development purposes. I have one computer with a 1meg internet connection, this computer is running 2000 advanced server. it is also the domain controller. I have tried to install exchange on the same computer (mistake?, are you able to install exchange on a DC?) Anyhow once it is installed, I go to the exchange admin and try and connect to a server (even hit browse servers) and nothing comes up. If I type the name of the server in the connection box I get

The list of Microsoft Exchange servers in not available because no Microsoft Exchange Server computer could be located.

Microsoft Exchange Admin
ID no c103112c8

What is going on here?

Hopelessly lost developer

As long as all the pre-reqs are met, you can install Exchange 2000 on any system....

1. AD installed on at least 1 system
2. IIS components: SMTP, NNTP, 3. Exchange is a member server of domain or on a DC (yes, you can install Exchange on a Domain controller)
4. Exchange can connect to the Global Catalog(If you only have one DC, then the GC is on the box by default)

You should not have to "connect" to a server. That was an exchange 5.5 MMC thing. Looking at your post, you may have installed the Exchange 5.5 management tool. Be sure to use the Exchange System Manager.

Yes thank you,

That was the problem, I was using the 5.5 Admin, which I didn't know one doesn't have to use anymore.

Thanks

Stefan
