I've designed a12 pgs booklet; each single page is 5.5 wide
and 8.5 high. so I.ve set it up in ID as 12 singles 8.5 x 5.5

Now the guy that hired me for the job is saying the printer is telling him he needs me to redo the job as printer's spread
set up at 8.5 x 11 (meaning putting two 8.5 x 5.5 pages for next to eachoter) and set ip up like that moving the pages as printer's spread..basically an imposing job...

It would be almost impossible to design in printer's spread since all pages would be shuffled around and it 'd be really hard to see what the design look like.

How would you setup a 12 pages booklet 8.5 x 5.5 wide?
As a 12 consecutive single pages 8.5 x 5.5 ?
Or as 6 spread 8.5 x 11 spreads?

Isn't imposing a printer's job???
Thanks

Yes - imposing should be done by the printer. You can download a 15-day trial of inbooklet from alap.com to impose for your printer. There are also a few awkward imposition scripts available for download from adobe.com

As a designer, you should have a direct line of communication with the printer. Using 'the guy' as a middle man is a sure-fire way to foul up the job. Talk to the printer to see why they cannot impose.

There's a free Build Booklet script that comes on the InDesign 2.0 CD-ROM that works perfectly well for a small job like this, creating 6 8.5 x 11 pages.

With larger documents you have to take into account for page creep and other issues, but with a small booklet like that the free script works perfectly.
