Hi,

I thought I heard there was a way to tell XP to run legacy software in a virtual native environment. For instance, if I have a win98 application that doesn't run on XP, I can tell XP that it needs to run in a win98 environment and XP can simulate that, tricking the software into running correctly.

Did I dream this?

If I didn't, can someone tell me how to do it?

Thanks,
Sharyn

No you didn't dream it. Look up 'Compatibility' in Help and Support. Works pretty well.

Of if you want some more, finer control over the already default built-in handling, just download the ACT (Application Compatibility Toolkit)

That would allow you to (by means of the QFixApp) emulate all sorts of quircks and things some programs have come to rely on, and to do some mappings between system file locations, registry locations; handle different behaviour between OSses (not al that much more than already is present default, but with some finer granularity)..

Also there are means of more easly managing such application specific settings, and distributing them, but that is most likely not of interest to you - you'd probably just be using qfixapp...
