Ok, I am just gonna come out and ask...

This is going to be easy for a lot of you, so be gentle.

I am new to Bright Store and what I think should be an easy thing to accomplish, has turned into a big ugly mess. I have a Dell PowerVault tape loader that holds 8 DLT tapes. I am doing M-Th incrementals and Full on Friday. I load 5 tapes. What I want to happen...

I want to be able to off site these tapes weekly. I will rotate 5 first week, a different 5 the second. IF I can get the first one to run fine. when I put in the second set of 5 it fails, looking for the first set. I have no idea how to do a simple backup and would love it if one of you would either break it down for me or point me in the direction of arcserve for dummies.

It seems like the entire back up wants to load on one tape instead of spanning the 5, what am I doing wrong>????

This depends upon the type of job being used, Custom, Rotation, or GFS. GFS can be configured to automaticly handle that type of thing.

Not sure which one I SHOULD use. I want this to be as easy as possible and I want to administer it the least ammount as possible...

Rotation is the simpilest, but it seems like GFS would be a better fit for what you want to do.

what do I have to do to create the backups? Format all the tapes and then what?

Do a Quick Erase Plus on the tapes and let the GFS job format them. Read the online help for details on GFS.
