Configure Pix 506E firewall???

Hi,

I have been given the task of configuring a Pix 506E firewall. I have never done this before yet i have quite good experience in configuring routers. I have been told that it is the same procedure as a router but was wondering if anyone would have a sample config or template that i could work off to get me going. We are also purchasing a 3DES licence(does this need to be added to config??)

Any help would be appreciated

Hi Max

There is a PIX Device Manager onboard, just http into it through the browser and use it to set up the basic parameters.

If it isn't present or you want to do it at the command line, follow these guidelines

Thanks for your help, i think the pix is arriving to our office in next day or 2 so i will give it a go and if i get stuck i will let you know

When updating to 3DES, it requires working with the activation codes. Take care to make both soft and hardcopies of configs and what IOS load you have. Sometimes things go wrong.

The PIX is not exactly the same as the router when configuring.. some commands are close but others are not. The PDM is a helpful assuming you have the latest 2.02. We have a short tutorial on the PIX in our tutorial section...
