I have never setup a Solaris server from scratch. This is my first time. I am ready to do a jumpstart, but how do I configure the LOM IP address so that I can remotely connect to the server?

Thanks.

I am assumming Solaris 8 here, Solaris 9 is slightly different. And you will need a console server set up for the server first as the remote management will occur from here(you can't ssh or telnet on machine that's at the ok prompt for example)

Once you're jumpstarted your server and it's built, and you have it connected to your console infrastucture, you 'll need to do the following:

Connect the Ethernet port on the RSC card to the patch port for the server. (Needs to be 10/half)

Install the LOM packages:

# pkgadd -d .

The following packages are available:
1 SUNWrsc Remote System Control
(sparc) 2.2,REV=2001.08.13
2 SUNWrscd Remote System Control User Guide
(sparc) 2.2,REV=2001.08.13
3 SUNWrscj Remote System Control GUI
(sparc) 2.2,REV=2001.08.13

Select package(s) you wish to process (or 'all' to process
all packages). (default: all) [?,??,q]: 1,2

I didn't bother with the GUI. Now run the set-up script.

cd /usr/platform/`uname -i`/rsc
run ./rsc-config

Sorry. It is Solaris 9.

Thanks for the info on Solaris 8.

What is the server model (280R, v100 etc)?

If it doesn't leak oil it must be empty!!

Got all three servers LOM setup and also jumpstarted.

Thanks for your help.
