Hi,
I'm trying to configure a new nic on redhat el as 3.
While trying to configure it I recieved an error on MAC address. Now I'm not able to configure it.
Error in /var/log/messages is:
/var/log/messages:Jan 24 21:42:12 prdlxnotes ifup: Device eth1 has different MAC address than expected, ignoring.

ifconfig -a shows a strange output:

Any idea?
Thanks.,

The mac address your nic is showing is different of the address which is stored in config files.

I saw this problem on my P5 recently.

Get your new mac address and change it in the config file in /etc/sysconfig ... networking or networks-scripts

Nice information Gloups

but i couldn't find this file /etc/sysconfig in my aix box?!? should i look somewhere else?

Regards,
Khalid

Is it AIX or Linux you wrote in your first message you were on RHEL AS 3

It wasn't me who posted this its 7280 :) i just was curious to find that on aix

Oups sorry,

of course you didn't find /etc/sysconfig ... in AIX but only in Linux.

I had this mac address problem few weeks ago and for the moment i can't be sure if it arrived after upgrading VIOs or after having upgraded the internal micro code of my P570. When the machine started after upgrade all my Linux Lpars had this type of problem. All Aix started but i dont know if they was better as linux to solve that problem or if it arrived only on my Linux Lpars
