Can anyone help me in setting up a CSU on a 2650? I need to connect to a T-1 card in a Nortel phone system. This connection will be used for a tie line between sites and I will be giving them 4 channels to use over the WAN.

Hello....
Are your sights connected via t1 point to point and you want to dedicate 4 channels from your pbx the the other sights pbx?

Yes I have an exisiting WAN T-1 between sites and we need to piggy back the voice channels off the WAN. So I am looking to strip 4 channels off to use as DSO's. This is going to be used for four digit dialing between sites and laos voicemail(centralized)The router has a built in CSU but I'm not sure how to access it and then configure it.

I think I get what your are trying to do. I think in order to do this the best choice will be the addition of an adtran or kentrox csu/dsu at each end. The t1 p2p connects to it and then you program 4 channels and connect to the nortel and the remaining channels to a wic-1t in the router. Also...is the card in the nortel a new card that will be programmed specifically for this?

I recently had almost this exact configuration. Two sites connected via t1. 12 channels for voice and 12 for data. We had an Inter-tel with t1 cards and Cisco with wic-1t. A Kentrox was our go between which worked well. We just finished an upgrade and now have a converged network. All voice between sites is now on our data network via ip networking cards in the pbx and QOS configured on the cisco. We have two remote VPN sites also connected in this manner. Saves loads on long distance. You might also check with your service provider for the p2p for help with this and possibly for the hardware needed. Sometimes they have field pulls for a good price and maybe some free configuration assistance.

Well that's the problem we purchased a new router with a CSU built in it for this use. And yes the T-1 card in the Nortel is for this specific use. I was trying to avoid paying an outside vendor to do this...

I am not sure how you could accomplish this with just the internal csu. I think that for what you are trying to do you will need an adtran or kentrox. It is probably possible to connect either one of them to the t1 card in the router just would need a vender specific cable to do that. Check with service provider and see what they use for equipment. If you get equipment that they are familiar with lots of times you can get them to help you configure it at no charge. Ebay is a great source for slightly used equipment.
