I bought a system online about 2 months ago, it worked for a week, then went bad..... it is an amd 1.2 512mb, 20gb, dvd, amptron k7-810 motherboard. When I turn on the computer it does not recognize any of the components. It starts up and runs and goes through the identification process but fails to find anything. I have tested all the components in another computer and they work fine. Has ANYONE had similiar problems and how did YOU fix them? I am about to toss it out the 2nd story window !!!!! PLease if anyone can gimme some advice and keep me from going nuts Let me know what I can do. I am running out of ideas and patience......Mike

What doesn't it find? Initial suggestion based on your description would be to change the battery and set up the CMOS settings. Ed Fair

it is a brand new battery and the system will allow me to change the cmos settings, but it will not hold the changes that I do make. any other ideas ?

battery not in backwards? Blocking diode would allow it to happen without damage but you would get this type of failure.
And look at the battery terminals. Corrosion would also cause this.
Otherwise CMOS problem, BIOS problem , or motherboard. Ed Fair

Ed is right, definitely try another battery, doesn't matter if its new or old, could still be faulty

Check battery with a voltmeter - should read about 3 volts - anything less than 2.5v should be changed immediately. Also, if your mobo has a CLEAR CMOS jumper, check that it is set for NORMAL, and not CLEAR CMOS!

is the jumper on the motherboard to clear cmos...? it should be set to normal..some read.. if no jumper present, will not hold cmos settings.
