My problem is that whenever I tell my computer to hibernate, it turns off (as if it's going to hibernate), then immediately turns back on. The computer is less than a year old, and at first i had this problem, then all of a sudden hibernation worked fine for a short while, now I cannot hibernate at all.

Windows XP Pro SP2
AMD ahtlon 64 x2 dual core 4800+
2gb of ram
ASUS mobo
Nvidia geforce 7300gs video card

I'm not sure if this is a hardware of software problem. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem? Thanks in advance. Let me know if any more information is needed.

can you go on standby ok without the same thing happening?

Is there anything in the Event Viewer?

Will it enter Hibernation correctly if you try it from Safe Mode?

You can also turn off "automatically restart after an error" so it will just halt at the fault and display the full Stop Error and blue screen.

Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties .
On the Advanced tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery .
Click to clear the Automatically restart check box under System failure , and then click OK . The error message on a blue screen should remain on the screen so you can record the error information.

Are there any updates for the Bios, or have you tried setting the Bios to any Safe Default setting?

The computer occasionally does not hibernate and you receive an "Insufficient System Resources Exist to Complete the API" error message in Windows XP with Service Pack 2, in Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005, or in Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005

Some general things to try.

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Hibernation.

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right-click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking. Select both boxes.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.
