O.K. here is a question:recently I switched my ISP to MSN and just a couple of days ago the computer started heating whenever I log on to MSN to the point where I have to shut down. The same problem dosn't happen if I use AOL or even load up the memory with open programs. Any input?

What heated up? I would try to run it with the case off to see what was heating up or use a program that monitors the heat. When it heats up see if you can tell where the heat is coming from. Just don't touch the insides with while it is plugged in. I can't imagine a power feedback from an ISP through a phone line causing your problem. There is power in telephone lines but a modem should be able to handle it under normal conditions. The phoneline probably runs through a switch at the tel company anyway.

I would say a different ISP can not make your computer heat up. It seems illogical. If someone at msn had hacked into your system and was running porgrams somehow that might cause a slight raise in cpu temp. Did you download any type of memory management software or anything like that? You could press CTL-ALT-DEL and see what programs are running when connected to both isp's. If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.

I agree! a differant ISP sounds just a coincidence.
More likely the straw that broke the camels back!
Have you got your overall cooling sorted, extra case fans and an adequate heatsink/fan for your processor type/speed?
Post your system specs for more advice. Martin Vote if you found this post helpful please!!

I am sorry, but may be I didn't do a good job explaining the problem. The processor heats up only when I log through the msn browser, once I terminate the connection the heat goes back to normal. Obviously there is a corrupt file somwhere that is causing that. Right now I am connected through a different browser and I don't have the problem. May be now it is the problem is clearer...

The only thing I can think about then is that there are more processes running, that let your CPU run harder....in this case.
But changing ISP does not make your PC heat up.

I think I solved the problem. I removed the modem, restarted windows and win installed it again. Now I connected and the problem stopped occuring. This is a motorolla sm56 modem. Any input? thanx..
