I've got a system where i had to install a new Motherboard, Processor and Power supply. Initially, it appeared to initiate properly and went into the Windows XP Pro boot screen where it was verifying the drive integrity. At 75% it shut down.

I then tried booting up again but it shutdown when it reached verifying DMI during the POST.

I disconnected all drives and only have the Motherboard, processor and RAM but it did it again.

I replaced the RAM with new RAM and it happened again.

I'm down to either the MOBO or the CPU. The computer does startup but shutsdown. Has this happened to anyone ?

Thanks

yeah, sounds like a thermal issue... where the mobo recognizes that the CPU is overheating and shuts it down, to prevent damage...

and yes, it has happened once more to me, but it was a RAM issue, the Stick was good, my mobo just didn't like it (OEM)... I replaced with a namebrand and had no prob after this...

Did u wipe the drive, i hope.....?
At the least, get into HKLM_Enum key and delete...You've got to let it detect the new hardware...also make sure the BIOS config is correct,(Reset it) esp. CPU specs,,pull the CMOS battery if you have to,,,,as long as you didn't muck the CPU install (thermal paste, HS, bent pins, ground shorts)
