Ok I just built a computer with brand new parts. Mother board is a Gigabyte K7 Triton (GA-7N400-L), AMD Athlon XP 3200 CPU, and 2x Mushkin 512 PC3200 ram. Now I read the manual to see what the beep was but I really didnt see it in there so i just assumed it is a 1 Long and 1 Short, but it really sounds like 8 long beeps that are like 1 High Beep, 1 Low Beep, (rinse wash and repeat). Which says DRAM, or MOBO.

I ran the memory test on and it does the shutdown thing on Step 7 (Random Number Sequence). Here is what the site says about it..

Test 7 [Random number sequence]

This test writes a series of random numbers into memory. By resetting the seed for the random number the same sequence of number can be created for a reference. The initial pattern is checked and then complemented and checked again on the next pass. However, unlike the moving inversions test writing and checking can only be done in the forward direction.

So makes me think could be the memory but i doubt it because it gave no actual error, and I tried each stick alone and they both shutdown and i tried them together and it still shutdown. So I went searchign and i found Microsofts memory test here.. and tried this one, i did standard and exteneded testing and i had no crash with this one so this leads me to believe that it is maybe my CPU or my MOBO. I was wondering what your thoughts are and maybe a possible fix? I need to know what pieces i need to send back and dont wanna send the wrong thing back.

Thanks for all the help!

in the end code will create man.
clones are coming only matter of time.
examples?

It has a fan in the front of the powersupply and one in the back. I have a spare side panel fan sitting around, ill unhook it and stick it in the front of my case for a little more of a air flow. ya running hot after playing half life 2 it was at 62c degrees.

If the CPU still runs hot(>60 C) with the cover removed and an external fan blowing on it as suggested by garebo, then the CPU's cooler is inadequate, and you will need to install a more powerful unit.

I forgot to mention that part, its a good test to see if you should be using another heat/sink fan combo on your cpu.

ok hmm not sure how much bigger to go.

is what i got now, can you perhaps suggest something that would work well? the reviews were good so i bought.. and maybe a thermal paste to use? im also thinking i can buy 4 more fans for the front of my case and a chipset fan as well.. i have a 450watt power supply think it will handle that?

1 cd burner gig of ram, 2 80gigs hd 7 seperate fans?

thanks again for help!

If running with the side cover off, and a room fan blowing in doesn't cool the CPU down, it's not a chassis fan airflow problem. You need better CPU cooling. What brand of thermal compound did you use? I've heard "Arctic Silver" to be the best. You may have to go as far as getting a larger case (server), to improve the ambient air flow and more room for a larger CPU fan.

All i can say at this point about the hs\fan is that the choice you made was a good one and it should do the trick.

And you have taken it apart, checked it out, applied thin layer of thermal past and re-installed it a few times.
So i dont think doing that again will do you any good at this point.

Is it still shutting down and beeping?

Thermatake Silent boost, is a better than average heatsink, which from a performance stand point is let down by a worse than average fan.
This does mean that you could definately improve it's cooling capacity by adding a more powerful fan.

If you replaced this weak 27.5CFM fan with something like this one: SEE LINK I gaurantee a 4/7 degrees CPU C drop

So replace the fan thats right on the cpu heat sink with this one?

Umm well is the paste i DID use the first 4 times of removing it and reapplying to make it cooler like you guys said.. but after the first tiem i removed it i couldnt get my pc to even book up with this stuff. So i used the white paste it was more sticky then anyhting that came with my motherboard and well it boots up now and runs a little cooler.

My todo list.
Buy articsilver paste.
Couple intake fans for front.
Upgrade the outtake fans in the back to 2x
and hopefully after this is done.... it will run cooler and if that other fan should replace the fan on my cpu heatsink .. add that to the list! hehe.

I really appreciate all the help guys!
