My computer will randomly restart itself when I'm playing A 3D game or when I'm getting ready to send a 3D image for work. Does anyone know what it could be?

As a guess I would suggest you are missing the latest patch or update for your game or for your video card, or both.

To get further information about any error look in your Event viewer.

Look in the System or Application folder. You can get to the Event Viewer via right click My Computer icon and select Manage.

Any errors logged in the Event Viewer can be expanded by double clicking on the error line.

Take any event error I.D. number and search for it on these sites.

Also check any "Information" line that mentions "savedump" and you should find reference to "recovered from a bug check". This is the Stop Error that caused your problem.

You can also turn off "automatically restart after an error" so it will just halt at the fault and display the full Stop Error and blue screen.

Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties .
On the Advanced tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery .
Click to clear the Automatically restart check box under System failure , and then click OK . The error message on a blue screen should remain on the screen so you can record the error information.

A RAM test is indicated in this situation, as is a monitoring of processor temperatures.

Memory testing - either of these will do the chore:

Temperature Monitoring:

Several motherboard manufacturers offer temperature monitoring utilities.

In the alternative, Motherboard Monitor: This site has excellent information on acceptable temperature ranges, and other heat issues.

what type of pc are you using? i have seen various problems with ibm motherboards having leaking capacitors and causing random reboots. ibm 6648tau and 818332u models are notorious for this. open your case and look at the capacitors and see if they are leaking.

One other thought: make sure you are current with DirectX. If so:

Start, Run, cmd
dxdiag

See if it shows any problems.
