Hi,

My laptop have had some problems the last couple of days. It just hangs, and I haft to do a hard restart. It often hangs right after boot, or during boot.

What I´ve discovered is that when I have my USB external drive plugged in, it works as a charm.

I´ve tried the following things:

- Register Cleaner
- Virus prog.
- Looked if the swap for some reason would use the external drive.

What I haven´t done:

- Installed a program or something from the external drive.

Any ideas would be appreciated!

Did you have the external drive connected when XP was installed?

Hi bcastner,

Nope, I didnt buy my external drive until 1 year after I bought the computer. And no re-installing windows after that!

Does System Restore correct the situation?

How is it from Safe Mode?

Any improvement if you reset the Bios to use the Safe Defaults?

Have some of your booting files (or any other needed user/login/ files?) ended up on the external drive?
