My friend is using a Windows 98, and only she is using the computer. Today she suddenly had a problem during boot up. At very very beginning, when you just see the basic information about processor, at the line when the system is checking the NVRAM, suddenly on the black screen appears text: ENTER CORRECT PASSWORD:. and you can not go further. Nobody set her computer to ask for any password, yesterday she was working without problem on this computer. You can not use ENTER, or ESCAPE key in order to go further, computer is blocked. Is it possible that the computer got some virus previously through diskette, (she has no Internet connection) and the problem started just now?You can not even use Function keys to run Windows in SAFE mode, becasue Password is required before you can stopp WIndows 98 for Safe mode. Any suggestion?

sounds like a pass on your bios....if i remember correctly (but could be wrong) on the motherboard there is a jumper that will clear out any bios password which would fix your problem....you would have to look on the mobo's manufactors site to find which jumper it is...

The jumper should be very close to the battery. If there is no jumper you can pop out the battery and let it sit for a hour or two. Then pop the battery back in and try it again. If it still does the same thing take the battery back out and let it sit overnight. Then try again the next day.
