Computer crashes after ctl-alt-del

I have a computer that crashes after a user tries to logon after locking the computer. Here is a log entry from the computer,

Event ID: 26
Type: Information
"Applicatio popup: MM Notify Callback: winlogon.exe - Application Error"

Has anyone seen this error and has a solution?

Check that a valid screensaver is defined.

The screen saver is the standard windows SS. It happens if it is set or not. Talked to Microsoft and they state that crashing of the winlogon.exe process can only happen as a result of a third party application. Still investigating.
