I don't know what my friend did to this computer. I'm trying to help him fix this problem. First of all, when I first turned in his computer it shows me you can start the computer on safe boot mode, network mode and those stuff right? So I started the computer off safe boot mode but when it loads to the windows screen it automatically restarts the computer. This is windows xp btw. So i reinstalled the computer, everything is done reformatting and stuff. But when i get to the windows part where it continues to install stuff into my computer. It still automatically restarts. (The part where windows installation screen starts)

Im have the same exact problem ... Boots up all the way to Windows XP screen with the blue loading bar thing and then pops a reboot. Friend of mine said it was my harddrive so i went out and bought a brand new 120g HD. and still having same problem, ive done all the boot things that i thought it might have been but that didnt work, im still scanning my memory with Memtest86 and that says my memory is fine. So could it be my CPU or Motherboard by any chance? Any help/tips/suggestions would be most appreciated and most helpful thnx.

If you cannot complete Setup for any reason follow this procedure as outlined in these troubleshooting articles.

Read the check lists in these MSKB and especially any mention of Bios Updates, removing USB and other hardware and turning off Bios Virus Scanners.

If you have Windows loaded follow this procedure.

To get further information about any error look in your Event viewer.

Look in the System or Application folder. You can get to the Event Viewer via right click My Computer icon and select Manage.

Any errors logged in the Event Viewer can be expanded by double clicking on the error line.

Take any event error I.D. number and search for it on these sites.

Also check any "Information" line that mentions "savedump" and you should find reference to "recovered from a bug check". This is the Stop Error that caused your problem.

You can also turn off "automatically restart after an error" so it will just halt at the fault and display the full Stop Error and blue screen.

Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties .
On the Advanced tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery .
Click to clear the Automatically restart check box under System failure , and then click OK . The error message on a blue screen should remain on the screen so you can record the error information.

My system meets all the req for WIN XP, but never the less ive done what you said to do and nothing, I still get the reboot at the Windows XP Loading screen every single time ... Ive tried a new vid card, new harddrive, tested my ram... everything. and still nothing. Maybe its my POWERSUPPLY or CPU/MOTHERBOARD ... any thoughts :) ? even though my PSUPPLY is fairly brand new ... O well... im getting ready to just go buy a whole new slew of parts to put another comp together, cause im getting really fed up with my POS .. :) Thoughts Suggestions Advise will still be most helpful and appreciated.

Does it boot to Safe Mode?

Have you looked at the Recovery Console options such as running ChkDsk /r ?

How to install and use the Recovery Console in Windows XP

Have you tried your luck in the Hardware Forum?

You could use BartPE (a mini XP self contained on a bootable CD and run from CD) which includes virus scanners via plugins. If that was to run on your machine it might give you more confidence in your hardware?

Negative, doesnt boot up in any mode, just keeps restarting everytime .. ive checked into cooling and that seems to be fine. ive done everything software wise to solve the problem, virus scans, spyware scans, scandisk crap mem test, and still nothing, im really leaning toward my Hardware.. i dunno its just really getting frusterating, everything i do is pretty much worthless ... its very disheartening,.

I feel your pain and but can only offer words of encouragement and well wishes.

Perhaps it's time to look at the motherboard itself, but I'm no hardware expert, and your machine is booting part of the way in to Windows?

Obviously it can boot from a Floppy or you would not have been able to run the RAM testers. Your problem being that you can't boot (fully) from any CD or the hard drive itself.

Is there any help over at the Hardware Forum?

Hello, I took my computer to some computer tech and they told me something in the motherboard got fried. It's this resistor kind of looking thing.

Thanks for the replies lol.

Yeah the capacitors were fried in the motherboard. These capacitors in the computer were beside the cpu where it gets pretty hot. Also there wasn't enough ventilation in the computer, the case is pretty small and everything inside is jammed together.

Heh, Thanx all for your replys of help and advice. I found out that it was my MB. so i bought a new one lol. thanx :)
