alrighty here we go,

Im goin to buy most my parts for the comp im buildin here and was in need for some tips. I have $1100 to spend on (not encluding the monitor) And heres what i was thinkin of so far,

- 512mb DDR 333
- ATI Radeon 9700 Pro
- 48x CD Writer
- Abit Motherboard
- AMD Athlon Xp 2700 (Or something better?)
- Some sound blaster sound card (havent decided yet)

I still need time to think of the rest with your guys's help! I really want a mobo that can be upgraded a lot like when they release the DDR 400 and other things like that. So could you guys give me some ideas on what to buy or any good suggestions? thanks!

Depends on what you will need it to do.
It sounds like you want to be on the bleeding edge. Which is OK but it will be your blood.
I would go to maybe 2/3 of the zoom-zoom and expect to pay maybe 1/3 the price and use the difference for something really important. Ed Fair

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply. Help increase my knowledge by providing some feedback, good or bad, on any advice I have given.

I would do as edfair says, I've built computers for less than $400 and more than $2500 that in reality did most of the same things at the same speed, for instance word processor, internet surfing, most games will seem to be almost exactly the same speed. Specialty stuff will need the cutting edge or almost the cutting edge component, like editing, compiling, number crunching, etc. The second benefit is that with the money you save you can probably build another computer in less than 6 months that is more cutting edge and cheaper to boot. And the thing about being cutting edge is that you are a guinea pig
