Hello,

I recently upgraded my system and
the problems began shortly after.

I desperately need any help to solve
this problem which is not only
annoying, but costing me time and
lost files. My system reboots without warning.
No matter what I am doing, sometimes I am on
line, writing a letter, answering an email
burning a cd, no matter without warning it
reboots and I lose everything that I worked
on at that particular time.

I have checked the cooling system...OK
I have checked to make sure all chips
and cards are installed properly...OK

Also at various times I get the following
error messages:
Windows GPF error 0028:FFFFFFCO
GRF error 0028: FFFFFFFF

I assume this is the Address the
rebooting problem occurs.
My System details are as follows:

CPU Model AMD 80x86-Compatible MMX 3DNow!
(AuthenticAMD)
Managed Physical RAM 351.4 MB
OS Name Windows 98
OS Version 4.10, Build 2222 (A)
Hard Drive Sizes 27.95 GB, 1.19 GB
Serial Ports 1
Parallel Ports 1
Printer Name Lexmark 1020 Color Jetprinter

Any help would be appreciated

Thank You

Tom Eleam

Are you sure the CPU is being kept cool enough. Also I have experienced this problem with the majority of the cases being either a RAM problem (Cheap and nasty or not being run at the correct bus speed) or Video problem where the Graphics card is not 100% compatible with the motherboard.

What parts did you upgrade!

Kind Regards

Kelley Lewis

Kelly,

I have upgraded everything, New Motherboard, sound,
video, and Ram. This was all done for me at the
Computer store.

When this problem first happened a few times I
took the computer back to the shop and told them
what was happening. Four days later they called
me and told me the only problem I had was that they
couldn't connect on line via cable. At that time
I was having VXD error messages, but not now.

I do get a blue screen error message from time
to time saying Windows FE Error
0028:FFFFFFCO or
0028:FFFFFFFF when this happens the computer
does not freeze and when I press the space
bar it resumes to what ever I was doing.

Long jobs like a copying or System check or
virus scan the computer will reboot without
warning and I have to start over. Also it
reboots when I am on line surfing.

I was assured the cooling system was ok and
it's not overheating. I also ran the computer
for one day with the cover off, and still
the problem persists. I checked the seating
of my memory chips and they are seated
correctly.

Maybe I do have a bad memory chip? all the
chips I brought were new.

Hi Teleam

How's your French?

The only link I could find is this one. My French is OK, but not perfect.

If you get stuck, let me know and I will translate it for you, but not tonight. It's 22:00 here and I'm shutting down for the night. I'll be back at around 08:30 tomorrow; another 6.30 hours time.

"I recently upgraded my system and the problems began shortly after."

So then some new hardware that you upgraded is most likely the cause. But random restarts can be caused by alot of things like a bad power supply, ram, motherboard, system conflicts, and probably a bunch of other stuff. A bad power supply is a common cause in my experience but it might not be your problem. And a power supply that's not powerful enough to power the system and all the extra devices can also cause random restarts so i've seen anyway.

Did the computer store test the new motherboard?

It's hard for us to say exactly what the cause for you is since it could be anything. It might be the ram. Run a few ram tests with Doc Memory and see what it reports. It's run via startup floppy.
