Running the IPO 500 Manager 6.2 (14). Under Extensions, Choose and extension and then under the VoIP tab
there is Automatic Select, G.711 ALAW 64K, G.711 ULAW 64k, and G.729(a) 8K CS-ACELP.

Right now ours is set to Automatic Select. Would changing this change the voice quality of our remote users? Our remote users connect via Cisco VPN and they use the Softphone 4.2.22 but the sound quality is horrible.

Just wondering

Doc, we better back up. We don't have enough road to get up to 88.

Thanks for all of the feedback!

Should I use the VoIP Silence Suppression option?
If so, do I set that for the remote (vpn) users or for everyone?

Silent suppresion does not add a little noise so the caller do know the conneciton is still active
If you turn it on and nobosy talks it is complete silent
I never used it !

You tend to get an escalating sound quality with this on, e.g. person is not talking so the channel stops transmitting, then they begin so retransmits. It also varies a lot, so basically, test test test.

ok, I am just trying to make sure that I have everything configured correctly for the voice quality to improve for our remote users. If I have missed something or you know of a setting that I need to check please let me know.

I would try the softphone internal and if it works then you know it is not a setting causing you grief but the connection to the remote site.
Use the same protocol you use on the remote site.

I tried internally and the calls that I made sound great to me but they said that there was some static in the line, not terrible but noticeable.
The two remote users were told that they sound like a machine gun or digital machine.

Any ideas?

Should H450 Support(Under Extension,VoIP tab) be set to None,QSIG, or H450?

Rob

most of mine are set to H450 but it works without, it has no influence on the quality of the call but maybe on some functions you use.

FYI we English are driving on the correct side of the road
(& I can explain why)
Europe drive on the wrong side of the raod because of Napoleon (again I can explain why)
what I do not know is why the USA insists on driving on the wrong side of the road, unless it is because they were recieving french help when they booted us out.

can any onf form the USA enlighten me?

Explain then :)

The English were always so drunk that they confused the wrong side of the road with the "right" side of the the road...by the looks of your spelling, it looks like you may be a little d r u n k

I only saw two spelling mistakes that in that post, most likely typos.

If you really consider yourself worthy of this job, you should be able to type when drunk.

As for spelling, S and Z are not interchangeable.

Reason for driving on the left

Driving on the left dates back to the middle ages & probably even earlier. ( this is far longer that the USA has existed)

Being predominantly right handed, when approaching on coming traffic it makes sense to move to the left so that your sword arm is correctly positioned to defend yourself should you be attacked.

Napoleon was left-handed so he make Europe move to the right for his convenience when he became emperor.

I guess it really does not matter which side of the road that you drive on as-long-as you get to your destination.

Peace out!

Ahhhhh the reason is based on that
People got smarter in the past centuries :)

ps i am left handed too ;-)

I have made all of the changes suggested above and our remote users sound like they are under water when they make a call.

Do you see any error on the switch side?

Also check the port where the Cisco is on, could be that it's connected to 10Mb HalfDuplex.

the network cable from the back of the IPO goes to port 40

here is what show run says:

interface GigabitEthernet0/40
description <== Connection to IP phone or workstation ==>
switchport access vlan 300
switchport mode access
priority-queue out
mls qos trust dscp
no cdp enable
spanning-tree portfast

(I know the description is wrong but that should not matter. VLAN 300 is for voice if that helps)
