Hello,

Currently I'm using winrar to compress and decompress files. However, winrar is limited in that it can only compress .rar and .zip files, does anyone know of a program that will allow to compress in several differents formats such as .tar and be able to create a self extracting files?

Thanks.

You can create self extracting archives with Winrar. For me Winrar is the best compressing program around. Why would you like to compress into tar?

When you compress files/folder just tick box create sfx and you will get the files/folder in a self extracting exe file.

Make the best use of what is in your power, and take the rest as it happens.

Open winRar and go to Options -> Settings -> Integration. I think you will find what you are looking for as far as file associations go. Also, under the commands menu, choose Wizard to create a new archive and that will allow you to create a self-extracting archive.
