I'm currently using Veritas Back-up Exec 8.6 to backup to tape. I would like to switch over to an NAS backup plan and I would like to know if maybe Veritas NetBackup might be better or perhaps a different software altogether.

Thanks,
R

Why would you want to backup to a NAS device? This is network attached and will very slow. Also, a NAS device is used for Filesystems and such, not to do backups.

Alright, then lets call it a disk-to-disk backup. What kind of software would take care of backing up 20 servers from a central console? Or is there a product out there that has that capability? We already have tape drives. We want to back up our data to an offsite server.

The disk-to-disk backup can be done with products that support NDMP. I believe that is probably the next step for NDMP team, to be able to backup data from a disk to a disk. Just to know more, does NAS support MS file system or UNIX file system.

Hi

CommVault Galaxy handles disk based backups very well.

I've done a few installs and find it a very good/reliable product.....similar to Netbackup but, not as expensive.

Thanks birky, I'll take a look at it.
