I got a new compaq 7360 and it came with two harddrive partitions. The first - C: - is about 7 GB, the second - D:, containing who knows what - is only about 1 GB. I deleted D: partition and now, if my linux instalation never gets working, I would like to make that c: partition so that it fills the drive. I don't know how to without erasing information. -Karl

Compaq used to make a partition that was for the OS use only, unavailable to user. And if you diddled it the system became unusable. The only recovery was to use the rebuild CD and recreate the partitions Compaq wanted you to have.
But you could see it using fdisk and the ones I've clobbered were in the 1 mb range.
This may or may not apply to what you see.
Now that you've deleted the partition, can you create an extended partition with it, format it, and have it readable. If you can, then you might put your linux on it.
You also might look into Partition Magic for on the fly partition resizing.

Ed Fair
efair@atlnet.com

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply.
