I have a compaq presario and I cant get the video to come up when I boot it. I have tried 3 monitors that work with other computers and tried a brand new video card as well and still nothing. Im thinking that it might be the mobo.
But the cheapest I can find a new one is just under $400!!!

Any ideas?
thank you

Lots of other components equally as likely to be the problem at this point, Guilo: power supply, CPU, RAM, BIOS...

Do the spinny things try to spin when you power it up? (fans, hard drives, etc.)

Do you hear any beep(s)/no beeps from the case speaker a few seconds after powering up?

I should have added that. sorry.
Yes the fans are spinning like they should. and I can hear the hard drive spinning as well.
With one monitor it would go to sleep mode within 15 seconds of power up.
I also do not hear any beeps at all. Everything sounds fine when it is powered up.
Im sure it is not the power supply. I suppose it could be the CPU.

If you're not even getting a beep, then the BIOS isn't even going through POST. You can try pulling the CMOS battery and resetting it just for the heck of it. Disconnect all the drives and pull all the cards out. If it still does not POST, then your out of luck. Swapping CPUs, RAM or the BIOS usually isn't practical unless you have access to ones you know are compatible. They are also easily damaged when swapping out.

Unfortunately, not many other options with your Presario, Guilo. Compaq did not allow much for upgrading and I wouldn't throw money into a replacement mobo. For the money, you're usually better off getting a generic barebones system and moving your drives and cards over to it.

Those things can be proprietary as all heck.
If your mobo is cooked, your better off building a new box for yourself.

Question:
What model and how old is it??

I looked online and im gonna buy a new mobo and cpu and ram for under $200 and build a new one. thanks all for your help.
