I have an old Compaq Armada 1500c C336/S/4000/D/0/1 running Win98. It was booting fine.
Now all I get is the compaq splash screen then the cursor at the right top of screen to enter bios(if you want to)then 60 secs of black screen the error message "Non-System disk or disk error".
I can get into the Setup (System Features)and reset the CMOS to factory default.
Boot Management has Enable QuickBoot "ON"
MultiBoot "ON" Boot order

Optical disk bay
MulitBay
Hard drive bay

When I try to boot the original restore disk the CD drive spins for 10secs and stops. Tried to boot Win98 floppy no response.
I took all drives out HDD CD Floppy booted and and put it all back together.
Still the same promblem and same error message.

Thanking anyone in advance that could shed some light on my problem.

I have an Armada 1530DM that had the same problem, turned out to be the hard drive.

Step One in all laptop diagnosis & repair: reset the machine.

Remove the battery, unplug from wall, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Plug in the AC adapter, turn it on, what happens?
