Hi,

The "B" key on my keyboard is hyper sensitive -- it is right next to the laptop eraser-mouse, so whenever I try to use the mouse, the letter B is spit out like so BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBb... etc.

Anyway, is this something that a simple cleaning of the key would fix, or is something else to blame?

just a guess... I would try to check these few things:

first, is the eraser mouse thingie bent over too far towards the b button?

second, it would definletly be worth a try at just cleaning out the keyboard if possible with a can of compressed air.

thirdly, have you checked the manufacturer's website?

lastly, if the laptop is still under warranty, have you contacted the manufacturer/supplier?

A lot of BIOSes don't have a repeat setting, but you can set it in Windows through the Control Panel. Also, if the eraser thing came with a config utility (those usually replace the Mouse control panel), there might be an option to disable the keyboard while mousing.

Aside from that, I'd try cleaning or maybe even a new rubber plunder doohickey for the key. Laptop keyboards (notably Compaq, I think) tend to wear out after a while. (How old is it?)

My Toshiba Satellite is just over a year old (in heavy use) and the keyboard's going strong. I had some insensitivity trouble with W and E, but pushing down hard on the troublesome key for a couple seconds cured it.

Thanks for all the tips guys -- I will let you know how it pans out. By the way, I've had this laptop a little over a year, and have used it pretty heavily for work and games.
