So my friend asks me to fix his computer, and when I get into it, I realize he's deleted ALL partitions so when I turn on the box all it says is missing operating system...

He had windows98 on an E computer so I find his quick restore disks and when I started the process it was working correctly, because the quickrestore screen came up... but then I get an error message that says
"General error reading drive D
Abort, Retry, Fail?" and this message flashes about 5 times then it stops flashing and this message is left:"Invalid media type reading drive C
abort, retry, fail?"

I have no idea how to fix this... I need some help

specs
Compaq presario E-computer
Windows 98 pre-installed
compaq QuickRestore

The problem is that the quick restore cd needs info off the 'D' partition to perform the restore. If the D partition is gone, you'll need to get the full restore cd from compaq - I think about 20 bucks + shipping.

The HDD will have to be partitioned correctly for the Restore CD to work. The newer ones have two partitions. You'll have to call or email Compaq technical support for assistance or you might be looking at a clean install from a Windows install CD with the HDD partitioned with one partition formatted. You would need a different modem if you did. I hope you're still under warrantee. Emachines, Celeron 600, 256 Mb RAM, 10 Gb HDD, ADSL.
