What is a hood lock coil and why did I get a BIOS error "Hood lock coil is NOT connected" when booting?

I just flicked the switch on the coil, powered up, it then switched itself back to the down position and I no longer get the error.

Strange .....

Good one? Compaq has some safety features on some of it's boxes that keep one from powering up the system if certain components are not correctly seated in place. I would quess that this is part of this type of setup ...maybe?

I beleive this occurs after each time the cover is removed.
