Hi,

I tried to install a Xircom RealPort modem + ISDN adaptor.
The RealPort modem works perfect but it seems impossible to install the ISDN adaptor correctly.
Even after several reinstalls: hardware + software.

The sollution ? I tried to upgrade to WIN98 and even WINme.
More recent drivers could solve the problem...

During the setup, after te second reboot the notebook stoped - black screen...

It seems impossible to upgrade the system to WIN98 or WINme.

What is the problem... ???

Regarding the 98 lock-up, one relatively easy way to determine if it is the issue I am thinking of is to disconnect the internal CD-Rom drive. Two screws on the bottom and the drive slides out the side.
If it will boot into 98, then the problem is with the DMA settings. Some of the cd drives in the 15xx series laptops do not support DMA. Certain versions of the 98 installation CD (OEM, Retail, Upgrade, Full) don't remember which, default to DMA mode for the drive.

You must disable DMA on the CD drive. If you can boot in safe mode then you may be able to change it in Device Manager under CD properties. If not, you can edit the registry and search for "IDEDMADRIVE". As I recall, you should change IDEDMADRIVE1 to a value of '0'.
