Lo que vos tenes que hacer es crear un ODBC Datasource para eso tenes que instalar el Informix-Cli en la computadora cliente.
Despues tenes que especificar por que puerto te conectas al
server y que nombre de host tiene, despues podes hacer un Test Connection desde la ventana de ODBC para ver si anda
si todo eso anduvo bien, vas al VB y podes hacer un CreateObject para usar ADO.

you have to ceate an odbc datasource on the client, to do this you must install the informix-cli on the client machine
After that you have to specify the server port and its hostname on the odbc widnow and test the connection, if tha work go to VB and you can try a createobject for ado to see if you get to connect with the server.
