Hi,

Just thought i'd start a CM5 thread for anyone with inside info or links to what we can look forward to.

Many thanks

I am hearing it's a RTU nightmare. I spoke with our AE yesterday about it and he is telling me to go to CM 4 now and save a lot of $$$. The cost of using the software is supposed to be really high.

Hell, there are no rules here - we're trying to accomplish something.

Software support is now REQUIRED, and is no longer optional with CM5, that's why it is more exepnsive.

Don't go overboard yet. According to Avaya the system pricing is supposed to separate out physical hardware maintenance from software support/maintenance. I haven't been able to run any real comparisons yet but according to Avaya the total pricing should be in line (their response not mine). I think Avaya has finally realized that they need the Business Partners to perform maintenance so they are coming up with some enhanced options such as Joint Services Delivery (JSD). I stongly suggest you stay away from JSD unless you have a vendor who is married to your wifes sister and can't possibly get away with raking you over the coals and has a strong technical staff that can triage any trouble (requirement of JSD before Business Partner calls Avaya). If you sign a JSD contract with Software Support you have locked yourself into a single vendor. Basically it would be almost impossible for any other Business Partner to sell you additional RTU since your Software Support/JSD is locked in with the first Business Partner and you would have to go back to them for a maintenance quote to try and cover the software the second Business Partner is trying to sell you. Not sure exactly how Avaya plans on re-casting existing maintenance under 5.0. As currently described by Avaya JSD will only benefit large national Business Partners who can write a JSD covering all sites.

There are some nice features coming with 5.0. You get maintenance permissions by default. I'm sure everyone knows how much of a pain this has been in the past.

There are some really neat things coming out but unfortunately I am under a NDA right now so you will have to wait. I'll try to drop something on here on January 7th. (GA date).

yes, we were quoted 4.1 vs. 5.0.

5.0 adds about $30,000 per year to the mainteance amount for ss

or 45,000 per year for ss w/upgrades.

with out the option to pass on the avaya software support.
that's on a medium sized system.
