adding second mis processor channel won't do anything bad since it is supported for duplicated (high availability) cms systems. dropping any unusual data in such link could have negative effects, though. don't do that. if you want to sniff what's going on between pbx and cms, better use a sniffer instead.
Thanks dwalin, much appreciated. I am trying to set up a (second and much cheaper) IP-VPN between an old G3csi and a CMS 13, located in different countries. To test the reliability of this IP-VPN is where the second mis link comes in.
What sort of negative effects are we talking about though? Corrupted data, missing data, duplicated data..?
i don't think you can add the second mis link to the same ip address as the first but you may try. on the cms side you will have to add second acd, same thing i'm not sure it will work. however i don't think it's the best way to test a network connection, there are tons of tools available for that and there's no need to complicate things with cms and processor links. after all it's just ip, nothing special.
dwalin - I was not going to add the link to the same ip address, and certainly not add a second acd (that would also require licence). I was only planning a second mis link, to a linux box I have set up that will collect the data in raw format and monitor the link.
If you know how much data a mis link is 'pumping out' then that would be fine as well I guess.
a linux box won't help you since it doesn't know how to communicate over a processor link. there's a special protocol involved, it is not documented and is not available outside of avaya, or at least i don't know how to obtain such documentation. so if you add a processor link to a generic computer you won't have any results, a link won't be established and that's all.
cms network traffic depends on the size of your call center of course. i can't give you any numbers but you can set up a sniffer or port mirroring on the switch to log pbx-cms traffic. log it for a week and then count how much it is.
sorry, i don't think this is of any help but i think you really are trying to dig too deep. there are many simpler solutions available, no need to go into complications.
hmm - now that is the kind of information that is actually very valuable! I was not aware that the link was a two-way thing, so that plan goes in the bucket.
I will try to set up a sniffer and log the traffic. If anyone is interested I can post the results in 10 days time.
dwalin, thank you, as usual your help has been very helpful.
yeah, netherlands. there are some very smart and strong avaya guys over there, i know some personally. i'm in russia and whether to count it as part of the europe or not is a question open for discussion. ) never mind, just curiosity.
