Here is some background information...

I am trying to help a customer of mine get a hardware key working. It is a key that plugs into the Serial port on a HP Vectra VEi8. It works on other PC's but not this one...

I went to a Command line and typed MODE, and it came up with LPT1 and CON. No COM1. I checked Ports in control panel, and COM1 and COM2 were in there, configured for Default (Advanced). BIOS says Auto... so it should be fine. I changed BIOS to say IRQ4-3F8, and then changed Ports to say IRQ4-3F8, but still no luck. The motherboard has been swapped (just in case), but it still is not working. I am out of ideas... If anyone has ANYTHING... PLEASE let me know!!

Thanks!

Is the operating system that runs on other machines a Win9x system? It's quite possible that the application that uses this hardware key tries to connect directly to the serial port - and NT won't let it due to security requirements.
Possible workarounds are newer hardware drivers available from the key manufacturer or software distributor or to change the OS on the system.

No... they are all Windows NT.

Thanks for the suggestions... We are not allowed to change the operating system... this is a corporate environment.
