Column Headers in Excel

Here's a kind of weird one. My boss noticed on another computer (Office 97) that the Column Headers were numbered rather than labled. Normally the rows are numbered and the columns are lettered. Well on this machine both are numbered. I have never seen this nor can I find a way to change ( not can I see why the F--- he cares!)
Any way, anyone know how to address this??? Submissions may serve to remove employer from spinal area.
