When logging into CentreVu Supervisor this morning, I was presented with "The following file systems or dbspaces are low, and adversely affect server performace: File system/dbspace /tmp: 85% full.

Now, I logged in as root and poked around, and it looks as though the /tmp dir is a swap drive or something. It had a bunch of 10 meg files called wtmpx.12345 where 1235 is a different number. Can I safely clear these files?

Any help would be great.

System: V6 CMS

Thanks,
Dave V

I just rebooted the machine and it cleared everything in the /tmp dir out, and i can log in no problem now.

The system is also much faster.

Is something going wrong when the directory fills up that fast? Or should I just expect to reboot it every now and then? I am new to the world of definity/cms.

We are running release 6 and we haven't rebooted in 47 days. I looked in /tmp, and we only have 14 of those temp files. I looked at the dates & times on the files, and they all have the same time stamp and they occur every Sunday. I'm going to look into it a little more when I have some free time, but I've got to assume there is a task running (possibly a backup) on a schedule. I thought ours was set to run daily, but it might be weekly.
If you figure it out, let me know.

Tom
