We are currently using ASA (telnet) to administer the PBX. I would like to start using SSH. Is ASG Guard the only way to do this?

No asg needed. Just setup an ASA session using ssh and port 5022.

-CL

ssh port 5022 is for CM SAT connection
ssh port 22 is for Linux server bash access
