does postgresql supports clustering like oracle did? if so where can i get some info about it? thanks in advance

Clustering in what sense? This word means different things in different contexts.

1. Replication and/or distributed query processing:
a. (commercial system)
b. (still in development open-source system)

2. Clustering of records in a table to achieve better read-only search speed (OLAP-style). PostgreSQL has a CLUSTER [index] on
command to accomplish this:

3. Just to confuse you even more ;-), the PostgreSQL team also has a terminology called "creating a new database cluster", which is what happens when you run 'initdb' for the first time to create your data directories, etc...

My PostgreSQL FAQ --

i know there's a clustering process (probably initialization process) to create the data directory. i want to know whether postgresql can do database clutering or not? like the RAC in Oracle where if one db server is down, automatically another db server will take over. therefore there's no downtime (if have also i believe it's minimal).
