Shutting down XP Pro, I get a Closing Network Connections message that never goes, even after a week (I left it shutting down and went away for a week - it didn't). I thought that this went out with 95/98, maybe it's a backwards compatibility feature?

Any ideas?

Go to Start>RUN Type in Regedit then drill down to,

HKEY_LOCAL _MACHINE
+SYSTEM
+CONTROL SET001
CONTROL "WAIT TO KILL SERVICE 20000" > Double click

The 20000 refers to 20000 ms. Change it to 200.

Does this improve it?

Didn't help. Thanks for trying though.

Right click on the network connection and select "Properties". Under where it says "Connect using", select the configure button. This will bring up a new dialog box, where you select the "Power Management" tab. Here is the option "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" - is this checked? If so, try unchecking it & see if this fixes your problem.
