Our company has two identical Windows 98 computers. All they run is Windows 98 and our business app. Each computer has the Windows 98 OEM license key stuck on the side of the base unit.

We have lost the recovery cd's and one of the hard disks has failed. Am i allowed to clone the other machine onto a new hard disk and install this in the failed computer?

If asked, i can produce both paper licenses for Windows 98

Based on my knowledge of the law you are allowed to do that.
It isn't any different that the way large manufacturers create production runs.
You may want to change the key on the newly cloned machine to match the sticker.
While you have the cloning setup running you might want to consider doing a spare.

Give the wrong symptoms, get the wrong solutions.

When you have done the clone and reinstalled the S/W, get a copy of Norton Ghost and ghost the disk. That way if the disk should fail again, you can restore it using ghost.
