Hi,

Is there any way within commvault to do a retrospective tape copy. I know you can set up your aux copy to have two streams of your aux copy to two different tape dirves to create duplicates at the time of the backup. But what about single archive tapes created last year in commvault that you now want to create a clone of.

Will that maintain the retention details of the source.

It does not happen often but sometimes one of my daily tapes is used for an AuxCopy. It is a long story how this happens but it does happen. I had been told by CV in the past that there was no way to copy that data to a different tape so I had given in to the fact that sometimes I am just going to lose a precious daily tape for an extended period on the occasions that AuxCopies are written to one.

It would seem that perhaps this tapetoolgui might be a way for me to copy the data from the daily tape to an AuxCopy tape that I wish it would have been written to in the first place.

But the question is, will the retention information be kept and if I go to do a restore will CV know that the data is now on tape XXX instead of YYY where it was originally written to?

tapetoolgui is a 3rd party tool that allows you just to run native cmds with tapes....like copy, delete etc.

The retention is stored within the CV DB and not on the tape...so if you took a copy of the tape then the data would stay on there until you overwrote that tape.

Problem is that you would have to use the media explorer tool to restore from that tape as it was copied outside of Galaxy.
