Can Clipper 5.2x applications run across a VPN. We are currently running several clipper applications on a Netware server using Advantage Database Server. Workstations are either Windows98, Win2k, or XP. Are there know problems or issues that I should be concerned about before attempting to run Clipper over a VPN. We have a remote office that we neeed to give access to the applications and data residing at the home office.

You need to at least open the correct port(s) for the TCP/IP traffic from client to (ADS)server.
Depending on the application, more or less data may flow through the connection, so be prepared to have that handled. If several simultaneous connections are allowed, required bandwidth is multiplied ;-)

Set up a test to check the actual requirements, it may depend on the VPN software used.

Someone told us that VPN would only work with IP, not IPX. We run IPX because if we run IP the clipper applicatons drag or do not work at all.

IPX is not routable (by design) so IP is AFAICS the only way to go through the VPN :-( or :)
Novell Netware is known for it's up to date IP implementation, they even made it the default starting with Netware 5, and it has been available and working since 3.12
Possibly a configuration-problem on the ADS/Client side?
